What a tremendous display of generosity of the past 24 hours! Thanks to the Community Foundation of Sarasota for hosting and facilitating, and to The Patterson Foundation for MATCHING all donations, $25-$100!

The outcome? Over $18 million raised, by 58,947 people, for 687 non-profit organizations in the Sarasota area! In 24 hours!

This year, as we face unprecedented circumstances, with many businesses temporarily closed to the public, these funds mean more than ever. It means these organizations can continue to operate, people can keep their jobs, and the most vulnerable in our society have the services they need.

These acts of kindness also give people hope. Hope that they will rise again and be able to provide for the community now and in the future. We would like to thank not only our donors but ALL donors; you are the proof that together we can all grow and thrive!

To our supporters we would like to offer a deep, heartfelt thank you! We are small and creating a very different kind of education; your donation directly supports our mission of nurturing children through nature, service, and meaningful curriculum. Through this mission, our students become connected to themselves, each other, and their community. They learn who they are and gain a deep appreciation for their own unique gifts and contributions. To us, this is essential. If our students have love for themselves and security in who they are, they can face any obstacles in the future. Thanks to you, we can continue to support our teachers, families and community.

With love and gratitude,

Erin.

Thank you!!!

Mangrove School of Sarasota will once again celebrate the tradition of May Day, with a Florida twist!

In ancient traditions, the lovely festival of May Day marks what is considered the first day of summer in Celtic lands. For many years, we have upheld this tradition, gathering in an open field to dance the Maypole in the mid-day sun, as it is done up North. A few years ago, we adapted this sweet festival for our own climate and culture, by celebrating the coming of summer with a beach evening, and dancing the maypole at sunset.

Join us at the beach at sunset as we welcome in Florida summer, longer days and relaxed routines.

We will have our Maypole with flowers on the top and ribbons hanging from it to weave in and out with skipping songs and dances. We will all join hands and hearts around the Maypole to festive live music and rejoice in the coming of summer, with many relaxing, breezy evenings at the beach.

Families are invited to enjoy the lovely dancing, singing, and  music that are woven throughout the festivities!

We Invite You To Join Us For:

Maypole dancing, sunset picnic

What To Bring:

Blanket and/or chairs, and a picnic dinner for your own picnic. Flowers, if you would like to make a floral wreath. We will have vines and other supplies on hand, if you need.

What To Wear:

White, or light colors

What to Expect:

Fun for adults and kids of all ages!

What Location:

Siesta Key Main Beach, near the yellow lifeguard stand

What Time:

5:30 -8:00 pm

This is a FREE event, our gift to the Sarasota community.

Merci beaucoup ! Thank you very much!

The lantern is the symbol of our own light which we can shine on a dark world, and we celebrate this time of year by holding a “lantern walk.”

The Mangrove School of Sarasota lantern walk will be held on Friday, Nov 16th at 5:30 pm, on Siesta Key Main Beach. (We will relocate if the air quality is deemed worrisome)

We will meet by the playground and then do our beach walk complete with lanterns made lovingly by our dear children (in class).  The children will sing songs, and  enjoy the stillness of the beach at night. As this is a reverent event, please do not allow your child to run the beach.

Parents are responsible for supervising their children during this event.

Friends are welcome!  Please call 941.927.3711 or email mangrovesarasota@gmail.com to RSVP

Open to all! Come make a paper lantern!

All ages welcome – all activities are designed to appeal to a wide variety of ages – older children can complete independently – younger ones will need assistance, very little ones may opt to play while mom or dad crafts, and that is ok too!

Please RSVP to mangrovesarasota@gmail.com so we have enough materials for all.

In our classrooms you will find water color painting from 10-11,  gluten free bread baking in our cozy kindergarten from 10:30-11:00, for ages toddler and up (younger than that age are welcome to explore the room and play) along with warm herbal tea and refreshments throughout the event.

In addition, enjoy a puppet story for younger ones (or young at heart) at 11:15

Our faculty will be present, and our classrooms open, each showcasing different aspects of our curriculum, with hands on activities, if you are interested in discovering how your child can benefit from our unique developmental approach: education for the head, heart, and hands.

Our course offerings are from newborn and up, with drop off programs beginning at age three, and now through 6th grade, including our drop off homeschool enrichment program, and forest kindergarten program.

We hope to see you there!

Join us for a gentle Halloween celebration!  We welcome families with children ages 0-7, looking for an alternative way to experience Halloween.  This event nurtures the whole child, with a sweet story and seasonal craft.  Children  (and adults!) are welcome to dress up in costume, however, in keeping true to our emphasis on the development of the imagination, as well as maintaining a wholesome gathering, we ask that you please choose a simple costume such as an animal, gnome, fairy, knight, or storybook character, rather than depicting gruesome or intense images. Extreme face paint and masks can also be quite scary for the little ones.

Hosted by our mixed-age Kindergarten teachers, Birte Hoag and Shivani Lash.

Please RSVP to mangovesarasota@gmail.com

Join us for  a lovely outdoor market of local artisans and gift making opportunities, for parents, with activities and childcare available while they shop for the holidays. Light refreshments and drinks available!

Hope to see you there!
